A Memorial Day picnic gives you and your friends the opportunity to relax and enjoy each other's company. If you are planning the picnic, however, you will have to do a fair bit of preparation. In addition to gathering food and items for your Memorial Day picnic, you will also need to pack them for transportation to the site of your picnic.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Food containers
  • Ice
  • Coolers
  1. Step 1

Pack the food that you will be taking to your Memorial Day picnic in appropriate containers. You can use plastic or aluminum containers to store food and transport it to your picnic. These containers also make it easy for you to bring leftover food home after your picnic.

  2. Step 2

Load your coolers with ice. You can use your coolers to keep beverages and food cold until they are served. You may want to purchase ice by the pound instead of making ice cubes at home, as this will save you time preparing for your Memorial Day picnic.

  3. Step 3

Gather other household items that you will need for your Memorial Day picnic. These may include blankets, board games and sports-related items. You can load these items directly into your vehicle or pack them in crates or tote bags.

  4. Step 4

Load any items that do not need to be refrigerated into your vehicle in advance. This will also give you the opportunity to remove items from your car should you need additional space.

  5. Step 5

Gather personal items in a bag. These should definitely include sunscreen, and you might want to consider band-aids, anti-bacterial ointment, tissues and toilet paper, as well.

  6. Step 6

Pack your food into your vehicle when you are ready to go. Be certain that the lids are attached to the containers securely so that nothing spills. It may be best to place these containers on the floor or in the trunk instead of on a seat, as this will reduce how much they will slide while you are driving.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of using large food containers, you may want to use several small containers. This will let you keep each of the items separate until you serve them. It will also make it easier for you to carry the containers to your picnic site.
  • If you will be going to a large, public area for your picnic, you may want to choose items that you can identify easily as being yours. This will ensure that no one accidentally takes your belongings and that you can retrieve them easily.
