How to Shop for Clothing for Mother's Day

When it comes to Mother's Day, there is always a ton of different things you could shop for. Music, flowers, jewelry and even books are terrific gift ideas for Mother's Day. Another terrific idea as a present for Mother's Day is clothing. Clothing is a very personal gift, one that will remind your mother of you whenever she wears it!

1. Get your mother's sizes. It's generally considered impolite to simply ask what size clothing your mother wears, but you can always sneak a peak at her shoes and wardrobe to get a general idea.

2. Shop for clothing for Mother's Day at stores you know your mother loves. For example, if she's a fan of eclectic European designer clothing then she's probably into Chico's. If she's more modern, she may shop a lot at The Gap.

3. Shop for slippers, a robe or any similar comfortable type of clothing. Such products are generally easy to size and fit a wide range of women. Warm, luxurious socks are also a great idea for Mother's Day gifts.

4. Buy clothing that comes as part of a gift basket. Some stores like Origins or L'Occitane are known for offering gift baskets that include not just nice clothing items but lotions, hand creams and other beauty products.

5. Shop online for clothing at an online department store like Macy's (see Resources below). Macy's has an incredible selection of clothing for women, from designer clothing to comfortable around-the-house attire. You can also have clothing shipped directly to your mother for Mother's Day, no matter where in the country she is located.

Tips & Warnings

• If you're not totally sure what kind of clothing to shop for, buy your mother a gift card for Mother's Day. Gift cards can be in any denomination, and can be bought from almost every store, big or small.
• Get a gift receipt so your mother can exchange what you buy if it doesn't fit or if she'd prefer something else.
• Always get advice prior to shopping for clothing for your mother. If you're unsure as to what she likes, you'll need to ask your father, your siblings or even your mother's friends to find out what would be a good gift.
• Don't forget to remove the prices when you buy clothing! Most tags allow you to remove the prices without removing the entire tag.
