Things You'll Need:
- Light-colored woven basket
- Acrylic paint
- Craft paint brushes
- Hot glue gun
- Decorative wood Easter shapes
- Wide wire-edged ribbon
- Easter grass
-
Step 1
Cover your work area with a drop cloth or newspaper. Select one or more acrylic craft paints (pastels work well for spring) and paint your basket inside and out, including the handle. You will need at least two coats to ensure even coverage. Let the first coat dry completely before you apply the second coat.
-
Step 2
Select wooden shapes to paint while your basket dries. Small, unfinished wooden Easter eggs, bunnies, ducklings and flowers can be found at a local craft store and painted with the same acrylic craft paint you use for your basket. Allow the wood shapes to dry completely (30 to 60 minutes).
-
Step 3
Use a hot glue gun to attach the wooden shapes to the outside of the basket. Allow the glue to cool and dry.
-
Step 4
Cut a 2-yard piece of wide, wire-edged craft ribbon in a color you have chosen to complement the paint on the basket. Tie a large bow from your craft ribbon, and attach it to the top of the basket handle with hot glue. Twist the remaining ribbon around the handle or cut it and allow it to hang down on either side of the handle.
-
Step 5
Fill the bottom of the Easter basket with plastic or shredded paper Easter grass to create a nesting area for candy, stuffed animals or other Easter-themed treats. Homemade chocolate bunnies or egg-shaped cookies you decorate with frosting, gumdrops or sprinkles are excellent fillers for homemade baskets!
