The grocery store is a common place to meet members of the opposite sex. Everyone must grocery shop, but people watching makes this mundane task fun. Although you might flirt with customers, don't overlook attractive employees. Grocery store employees often look for distractions from their work, so strike up a conversation with the clerk who catches your eye on your next shopping trip.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a shopping outfit similar to that you would wear on a casual date. Stand out from the other shoppers who are wearing their slippers, flip-flops or sweat pants.

  2. Step 2

Ask for directions or assistance. The store pays employees to help customers, so this is a nonthreatening way to start a conversation.

  3. Step 3

Take note of the department the store assigns to the employee. Ask the employee specific questions that allow her to show off her knowledge of the imported cheeses or exotic produce.

  4. Step 4

Extend your friendliness to the other grocery store employees. When you're gone, they might act as matchmakers for you, pointing you out to the employee.

  5. Step 5

Make a joke about the store, its inventory or the work the employee is doing. Keep the joke friendly and light-hearted, using humor as an icebreaker. You could say, "Oh no, not another price increase," as the employee wields a pricing tool.

  6. Step 6

Compliment the employee on something job-related. This is more neutral than commenting directly on her appearance. For example, if you've seen her in the store before, say, "You are always so helpful."
