Step 1
Inspect the wiper blade first by checking the wiping mechanism for looseness. Also, check for road film or build up, cracks, worn sections of the blade or other mechanisms. Any broken or worn parts should be replaced. Loose parts should be tightened.
-
Step 2
Remove the wiper blade element, also known as the insert, if it is cracked, worn or warped. Find the side with the locking side or retaining tab. Pull the wiper blade/arm assembly away from the glass gently. Depress the retaining tab or pop the spring out of the locking side.
-
Step 3
Slide the wipe blade element/insert out of the housing. Don't worry if it damages the blade when releasing the lock if you are going to replace the blade itself. Do not damage the hooks or guide springs.
-
Step 4
Inspect the wiper blade to ensure all of the pieces are in good working order. This should include the grasping hooks and joints. If it needs to be replaced, do so. If not, spray all the joints with a little WD-40 for protection.
-
Step 5
Blow the area out with an air compressor to remove foreign debris, dust and other things before replacing the element. This will extend the life of the wiper blade element.
