Once you have mastered water skiing on two skis, skiing on one ski becomes a challenge to conquer. Dropping a ski to go from two skis to one ski is a skill that allows a water skier to slalom without the difficulty of getting up on a single ski.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water skis
  • Boat
  • Tow rope
  1. Step 1

Loosen the binding on the ski you intend to drop. This allows your foot to slip easily out of the binding when you change from two skis to one.

  2. Step 2

Begin skiing on two skis. Make certain that the boat driver is pulling you at a moderate speed. Lower speeds often make it easier to drop a ski without losing your balance.

  3. Step 3

Transfer your weight to the ski that you intend to ski on. Make the transfer smoothly and slowly, while keeping your arms straight.

  4. Step 4

Lift your foot, heel first, out of the ski you intend to drop. As you release your foot from the binding the ski is pulled off and left behind.

  5. Step 5

Move the foot you released from the dropped ski to the rear binding of the single ski. Move quickly but smoothly. If you miss the binding with your foot, put your foot anywhere on the back of the ski. Once you have gained your balance on one ski, slowly move your foot into the binding where it is secure.

  6. Step 6

Shift most of your weight to the rear foot. This provides stability in the water while skiing on one ski.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the turbulence created by the propeller makes it difficult to change from two skis to one ski, cross the wake before attempting the change.
