If you have a thing for odd plants, then you might like to own a Venus Flytrap. These plants are carnivorous, meaning that they devour insects in order to survive. Once you decide that you want to own a Venus Flytrap, you'll need to look for a healthy and well kept plant.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase the Venus Flytrap from a small local nursery. You should have bought plants previously from the nursery and know that is has a good reputation. If you buy from a larger chain, you are not going to know under what conditions the plant was grown.

  2. Step 2

Speak to one of the staff members of the nursery. Inquire about how the Venus Flytrap has been kept. Find out how often it was watered and the soil conditions it was grown in. Gather as much information as possible to determine whether you are buying a healthy plant.

  3. Step 3

See if they know when the plant went on sale. If it's been sitting at the nursery for weeks on end, it may be suffering from neglect and could develop problems down the line.

  4. Step 4

Examine the Venus Flytrap. It should have a lot of green on it and not have any dead traps. You want a plant on the bigger size because it shows that it has been growing and thriving longer than a smaller plant.

Tips & Warnings
  • You want a plant that was grown in a place with high humidity. Venus Flytraps thrive on high humidity.
  • Some nurseries specialize in carnivorous plants. When you visit a nursery, find out how much experience they have in growing these kinds of plants.
