The quick square helps construction workers cut 90-degree angles or miter cuts at 45 degrees. It has a square flange along one side that acts as a guide for the power saw. Roofing angles are cut with a quick square also.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Quick square
  • Wood plank
  • Carpenter pencil
  • Power saw
  • Safety glasses
  1. Step 1

Take a sharpened carpenter pencil and place it in your mouth or behind your ear.

  2. Step 2

Spot the flange of the quick square on the edge of the wood plank.

  3. Step 3

Draw a line at a 90-degree angle or a 45-degree angle, whichever your project calls for.

  4. Step 4

Solve any issues with the construction of the roof or walls prior to cutting the angle you need. Wood is expensive so take your time and measure correctly.

  5. Step 5

Make your angle lines dark. You will need to see them while you make the cut with the power saw.

  6. Step 6

Try for perfect accuracy. You can draw the lines at both ends of the wood plank before you cut.

  7. Step 7

Treat the quick square with care. Do not throw it back into your toolbox. Dings and dents make it difficult to draw a straight line.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mistakes happen when measuring and cutting. Take your time and make accurate calculations.
  • Do not use a power saw without wearing the proper safety equipment.
