on 8/25/2009 Thanks for the tips. I think I've discovered my hives are due to a sulfite sensitivity. Not fun!

on 11/1/2008 The indoor pool at our local Y has helped my hives. I guess the chlorine helps them. I stay in the water for more than an hour at a time. Also - years ago at camp the counselor treated my poison ivy by applying Milk of Magnesia to it so I don't doubt it would help hives. This is my second long term bout with hives in my lifetime. The first bout ended when I had a d & C for a miscarriage. Thank goodness for anti-histamines - especially that we have ones that do cause drowsiness as well as ones that do not.

on 9/14/2008 I have had hives from allergic reactions to tylenol and foods. Found a home remedy that works great in The Natural Healing Book. Drink 1/4 tsp. baking soda in water 3 times 15 minutes apart. You can also apply a paste of baking soda with water on the affected skin. My husband ran to pharmacy to get me some benedryl, and by the time he got back the baking soda had stopped the severe itching and the swelling and redness was greatly reduced.

on 8/6/2008 I love etherbunny's solution. Hives are a serious issue. Take benadryl. Or take Zyrtec to prevent hives!

on 11/28/2007 I get hives frequently... Autoimmune BS... Here is what you do:
Put 3/4-1 cup oatmeal in a coffee filter
Put the coffee filter in the coffee machine
Add water, like 8 cups or so
Continue adding water until the swollen oatmeal nearly leaves the filter
Add the oatmeal juice to a cold bath
Suffer miserably in the cold bath
Apply Noxema to your hivey parts
Suffer with the burning
Rinse off the Noxema (rejoice)
Apply some of the oatmeal to your hives
Eat the rest of the oatmeal because you don't feel like cooking
Take a Benedryl
Pass out
Wake up without hives (mostly)
