Hives are red blotchy swellings on the skin, which are usually the result of an allergic reaction. They are often very itchy and can be painful or cause a burning sensation.
Put cool, wet compresses on red areas to soothe itching.
Step2
Take a bath in oatmeal if hives cover a large area.
Step3
Add cornstarch to your regular bath.
Step4
Apply aloe vera gel to soothe skin and reduce discomfort.
Step5
Take acidophilus to help reduce an allergic reaction.
Step6
Take quercetin to help relieve inflammation and allergic reactions.
Step7
Supplement with 1,000mg vitamin C a day to help your immune system respond to allergens.
Step8
Use the herbs alfalfa, yellow dock, echinacea, ginseng, licorice and nettles.
Step9
Investigate the cause of the hives. Medications, insect bites or stings, certain foods and food additives, and certain plants are common culprits.
Step10
Avoid the substance that caused your hives.
Step11
Use an antihistamine for temporary relief of symptoms, particularly if hives are very severe or if overall allergic reaction is severe.
Tips & Warnings
Hives can be part of a very serious, even life threatening, allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis. If you have an outbreak of hives accompanied by difficulty breathing, nausea or vomiting, chest pain, coughing or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, seek immediate emergency assistance.
If symptoms persist or if you have specific medical conditions or concerns, we recommend you contact a physician. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

Put 3/4-1 cup oatmeal in a coffee filter
Put the coffee filter in the coffee machine
Add water, like 8 cups or so
Continue adding water until the swollen oatmeal nearly leaves the filter
Add the oatmeal juice to a cold bath
Suffer miserably in the cold bath
Apply Noxema to your hivey parts
Suffer with the burning
Rinse off the Noxema (rejoice)
Apply some of the oatmeal to your hives
Eat the rest of the oatmeal because you don't feel like cooking
Take a Benedryl
Pass out
Wake up without hives (mostly)

I have had Hives from head to toe for 5 weeks now.Thankfuly they are not all over at the same time.I have been on different meds and nothing has helped. I havent done anything different to cause this. I broke out from my ribs to the top of my head,so red and burning, knots over every inch including my mouth, my blood pressure went up to 173/110, this has been a very trying time. Please take hives seriously. I am waiting on lab results.

Whoever added the comment on 8.8.2006, saved my life! I have been in agony with hives for two days from a reaction to amoxicillin. The tip about using a hair dryer is something I would never have dreamed of but helped with the itching immensely. The hives are finally subsiding. I am grateful to the person who took the time to post that advice.
