If you have a rabbit, litterbox training it is highly recommended. Litterbox training is a lot easier than you might think. Housetraining your rabbit will help keep your house clean and smelling good, and caring for your rabbit will be easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Newspaper
  • Litterbox
  • Pelleted litter

Step1
Lay newspaper in the bottom of the rabbit's cage. When the rabbit urinates, tear off the paper with the urine on it and put it in the litterbox. Put rabbit pellets in the litter box, as well.
Step2
Put pelleted litter into the rabbit's litterbox. Make sure the litter is safe, because rabbits tend to lay in the litterbox for long periods of time. Do not use kitty litter that clumps. It can cause respiratory problems for your rabbit.
Step3
Move the litterbox to a place that your rabbit will be apt to use it. Some rabbits prefer urinating in a certain spot. Leave the rabbit in its cage when you are not at home until the rabbit is fully trained.
Step4
Begin putting the rabbit into the litterbox the first day you bring it home. Place the rabbit in the litterbox so it can smell the urine and the pellets. Once they smell this, the rabbit will consider the territory marked and they will be more likely to return to the litterbox when they need to go to the bathroom.
Step5
Consistently put the rabbit in the litterbox periodically throughout the day. If this is done regularly, the rabbit should be completely trained within one week.
Step6
Reward your rabbit with a treat, cuddle time or praises every time it uses the litterbox. This will encourage the rabbit to use the litterbox.
