When you give pedicures on a regular basis, you want to know how to properly perform all aspects of the salon treatment. Before polish is applied to the feet, the salon technician is expected to massage the patron's feet. A foot massage is going to improve circulation as well as soften the heels.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Apply an essential oil to the feet. This can help you move over the skin easily while also softening the skin.

  2. Step 2

Use strong firm motions to massage their feet. Work your fingers all over their feet as well as up the calves. Spend extra time massaging the heels and the base of the feet.

  3. Step 3

Add lotion to your palms. Once the oil has dried, use a scented or unscented lotion to continue massaging the patron's feet.

  4. Step 4

Continue massaging with the lotion once you have applied it in a generous amount. Reapply the lotion if needed. Most patrons are going to expect a massage that lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Pat down the feet after the massage with a dry towel. You may also want to suggest that they dip their feet back in the pedicure bath to rinse away the excess oils and lotion.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have experience using hot stones, then they can also be a part of the massage during a pedicure. The hot stones have properties that are said to rejuvenate the foot.
  • Don't rub too hard on sensitive areas of the foot. The patron may have a sensitive spot that does not take well to massage. The shins are a particularly sensitive area.
