A wrist lock and throw is a technique that is very useful in mixed martial arts for it neutralizes the opponent's attack as well as uses the impetus for the attack against the attacker. The technique takes practice to perfect, but it is well worth the effort.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Intercept your opponent as he comes in with a grab. If your opponent takes your left wrist in his hand, reach over with your right hand and grasp the wrist of the hand holding yours.

  2. Step 2

Pull the arm of your opponent that's grasping your wrist down a little, throwing off your opponent's balance.

  3. Step 3

Step in toward your opponent before he has a chance to recover his balance, bending his arm up as you do so, and keeping it close to your body.

  4. Step 4

Spin your body around to the left, keeping control of your opponent's wrist and arm.

  5. Step 5

Throw your weight forward and away, extending your arms as you do so. Think baseball, where you extend your arms and your body after hitting the ball with the bat. Essentially, you are doing the same with your opponent, and the force of your movement will throw your opponent off his feet.

  6. Step 6

Perform a wrist lock and throw in mixed martial arts whenever an opponent attempts to control you by grabbing your wrist or arm. The technique is effective in that it is using the force of the opponent's attack against him.
