The coin prediction magic trick forces a person to choose coins the way you want them to, while making it look like you are reading their mind. This follows a principle called the Magician's Choice. You can do this fun mind-reading trick with almost anything. The following steps will show you how to do this trick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place 3 coins on a table: a quarter, a penny and a dime.

  2. Step 2

Choose someone to pick from among these 3 items on the table. Tell your audience that you will predict which coin your friend will pick from among the 3 by reading their mind.

  3. Step 3

Write a predication on a piece of paper that says "You will choose the quarter." Fold up the piece of paper and place it to the side.

  4. Step 4

Ask your friend to point to 2 of the coins on the table.

  5. Step 5

Eliminate the 2 coins on the table if he points to the dime and the penny and tell him he has chosen the quarter and skip over the next step. If he instead points to the quarter and either the dime or the penny, you eliminate the coin he hasn't pointed to and take it to the side. This will leave a quarter and either the penny or the dime on the table.

  6. Step 6

Instruct your friend to push one of the coins toward you. If he pushes the dime or penny toward you, you eliminate it, leaving the quarter. If he pushes the quarter toward you, you tell him he has chosen the quarter. Either way, your prediction has come true.

  7. Step 7

Tell him open to the paper to reveal that you can, in fact, read his mind.
