Things You'll Need:
- Beard trimmer
-
Step 1
Take the beard trimmer and adjust the guard setting to the number you want, depending on how long or short you want your beard to be. Before you begin, your beard should be clean and completely dry.
-
Step 2
Start at the jaw line and follow straight up in a single motion toward the chin. Repeat this until you have removed all the excess hair around the jaw line and you have created a type of ledge or line of hair around the chin and face.
-
Step 3
Perform the same single motion around the chin and cheeks starting at the bottom and moving the trimmers in a vertical motion. Follow the natural contours of the face, and don't try to force hair in a direction against the natural shape of your features.
-
Step 4
Remove the guard from the trimmers and carefully shave the neck and around the underside of the chin until you have smooth hairless skin without any stray hairs. Perform this motion carefully and slowly and avoid pressing down too hard and accidentally cutting yourself.
-
Step 5
Do the same to your cheeks by moving the trimmers down, this time to the corner of the mustache and making a neat line down the side of your face. The exact angle or shape will depend on the style that you choose, but make sure that your beard is symmetrical by trimming exactly the same amount and position on both sides.
