How to Make Money Cards for Christmas and Birthdays

When you can't decide on Christmas or birthday gifts—-or would rather let the recipients choose their own—-money is always a good option. If you worry that the gesture is too impersonal, making personalized cards will add a thoughtful and personal touch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Card stock
  • Scissors
  • Brads, if desired
  • Double-stick tape, if desired
  • Letter stamps and ink pads or pen
  1. Step 1

Purchase a blank card or cut a piece of card stock and fold it in half to create your own. You can also tri-fold an 8.5- by 11-inch piece of paper by slitting it horizontally, then bringing both sides toward the middle and creasing so it forms 3 equal panels.

  2. Step 2

Create a flap, notches or a pocket on the inside to hold the cash. Fashion a flap with a strip of card stock secured at each end with brads, make notches by cutting 2 diagonal slits at the bottom of the card or design a pocket with a piece of card stock secured along the bottom and sides with narrow double-stick tape.

  3. Step 3

Add a stamped, computer-printed or handwritten message to the inside of the card. Measure first to be sure the cash won't cover it.

  4. Step 4

Decorate the front with a stamped image, a sticker scene, photos or accents like paper flowers, ribbon, buttons and charms.

Tips & Warnings
  • Turn a store-bought greeting card into a money holder. Open the card and add a flap, small notches or pocket across the bottom of the left side.
  • Design an envelope that coordinates with your card. Line the flap with matching patterned paper, adorn the front with colorful lettering and seal the back with a sticker or stamped design.
  • Presenting cash in a card is fine if you do it in person. If you're mailing your gift, it's safer to send a personal check or money order.
