Step 1
Find the housing for the air filter. The filter and its housing will either be cylindrical or flat and boxy in shape.
-
Step 2
Remove the air filter. If you have a cylindrical filter, you should be able to unscrew the housing and take the filter out. If you have a flat boxy-shaped filter you will probably need to remove either a nut and bolt or a screw to take off the lid and then lift out the filter.
-
Step 3
Inspect the air filter to see how dirty it is. If it isn't very dirty, you can lightly tap it on a hard surface to dislodge much of the debris and replace it in your mower. However, if you are going to replace it with a new one, discard the old filter and continue with Step 4.
-
Step 4
Oil the filter according to manufacturer's specifications if you are using a foam filter. A properly oiled and serviced foam filter will work better than a dry one.
-
Step 5
Place the new filter where the old one was. Make sure you have inserted the new filter correctly. It should appear identical to the old one. Replace the cover to the air filter housing.
