Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Disengage the spark plug and drain the gas before cleaning your lawn mower. This will ensure that the blade doesn't kick on unexpectedly during cleaning tasks.

  2. Step 2

Find a clear, flat place on your lawn to complete the task. Then turn your lawn mower over on its side to expose the blade and underside for cleaning.

  3. Step 3

Remove any moldy and/or caked-on grass from the underside by wedging a flat head screwdriver (or putty knife) under the buildup and scraping it off in chunks.

  4. Step 4

Use a strong stream of water from your garden hose to blast off any excess grass that remains behind.

  5. Step 5

Scrub off any stubborn pieces with a scrub brush, soap and hot water.

  6. Step 6

Tilt the mower back slightly and fire the engine up to air-dry your blade and underside. Allow the mower to sit several hours to dry completely or dry with an old towel or rag.

  7. Step 7

Spray vegetable oil on the underside of your mower to prevent future grass build up.

  8. Step 8

Rinse out the underside of your mower following each cutting. This will make future cleanings easier and prevent rust caused by wet grass.
