A sling is a knot used to create a handle for an object, and jug slings are specifically designed for any narrow neck that has a lip at the top. They are so-named because they turn a bottle into a "jug" by giving it a handle and the Asher jug sling is one of the more secure knots of this type The following steps will show how to tie an Asher jug sling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a closed loop of rope with the ends tied together by a secure knot. It must be of appropriate size for the bottle being tied with the jug sling.

  2. Step 2

Hold the loop in front of you so the two lengths are parallel with each other. Make sure the knot is at one of the ends so that it does not interfere with the jug sling.

  3. Step 3

Place the loop behind the neck of the bottle and bring the end with the knot around to the front. Push it through the other end of the loop and pull it through.

  4. Step 4

Make a half-twist with the end of the loop that does not have the knot in it by bringing the top part toward you and down. Bring this twisted loop toward you and push the end of the loop with the knot in it through the twisted loop.

  5. Step 5

Dress the Asher jug sling by pulling the end of the loop with the knot in it to take out the slack until the sling is tight. You can now hold the bottle securely by the loop of rope yet still untie it easily.
