Step 1
Block an attack. The knee strike is most effective as a counter attack from a punch. The opponent's punch gives him a forward momentum that you can use to magnify the force of your knee strike. Block the punch with a parry so you can move into the knee strike.
-
Step 2
Clinch your opponent. Throw your free hand (the hand you did not parry with) across your opponent to grab him behind the neck. Pull down quickly so you can transform the forward motion of your opponent's attack into your own attack.
-
Step 3
Pull down and bring the knee forward. As you pull your opponent down by the neck bring your knee slightly up and forward. The main direction of your knee attack should be forward, rather than upward, so you don't open your knee or thigh to an elbow attack.
-
Step 4
Bring the striking leg back to your kickboxing stance. Make sure you land your leg in a defensive stance so your opponent can't knock you off balance in case your knee strike misses the target or does minimal damage. Get your hands back up once you've performed the strike.
