The reflective glass of a mirror brings beauty and style to your home. Mirrors also make rooms seem larger, when hung properly. Hanging a mirror in your home may sound easy, but you must know how to hang it properly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Nail or screw
  • Hammer or screwdriver
  • Plastic anchors
  1. Step 1

Choose the location where you want to hang the mirror. Be sure the style of the other furnishings and decorations in your room complement the mirror.

  2. Step 2

Mark the middle point of the mirror with a pencil. Hold the mirror up to the wall to see how it looks before going further. Mark where you need to put the hanger.

  3. Step 3

Make two other light marks a couple of inches on either side of the hanger mark. Do this using a ruled level.

  4. Step 4

Check for studs in the wall, either with a stud finder or by tapping along the wall with a hammer and listening for sound differences. If the stud is behind your mark, you can put a nail directly into the stud to hang your mirror.

  5. Step 5

Use an anchor to hang a mirror away from a stud. Make a nail hole in the wall and hammer in a plastic anchor or wall plug. Insert a screw, using a screwdriver, into the plastic anchor. Leave the screw sticking out enough to hang the mirror.

  6. Step 6

Hang the mirror on the piece of the screw that is sticking out. The screw and plastic anchor combination allows you to successfully hang a heavier item without utilizing a stud.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a pencil to mark the wall so you can easily remove the mark when you're finished.
  • You can also find metal anchors for heavier decorations.
