A hand-tied bouquet is the most popular type of floral arrangement carried by modern brides. Though they look intricate, a hand-tied bouquet is not difficult to create. If you have access to the proper materials and some time to practice, you can create a professional looking bouquet for yourself or a friend.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long stemmed flowers
  • Scissors or flower cutters
  • Ribbon
  • Floral tape or wire (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut the stems of the flowers you intend to use to the same length. Leave the stems longer than you desire them to be because you will trim them again when the bouquet is finished.

  2. Step 2

Arrange your flowers in a pleasing dome shape by holding the bouquet firmly with one hand and adding the flowers with your other hand. If you are using filler or various flowers, make sure to distribute the different types of flowers equally throughout the arrangement.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the stems of the bouquet with ribbon. Begin about halfway down the stems and start wrapping around and up to the base of the blooms. When you get near the blooms, wrap the ribbon around the stems going back down.

  4. Step 4

Tie a knot or bow to secure the ribbon and finish the wrapping. The tails of the ribbon can be cut short or left long to trail dramatically.

  5. Step 5

Trim the stems to the same length, slightly longer than the ribbon wrapping. Use flower cutters or sharp utility scissors.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have trouble holding the stems together while wrapping, secure the arrangement with floral tape or wire before beginning the wrapping process.
  • Remove thorns from roses before using to prevent the bride from getting pricked.
