How to Give Haircuts With a Razor

Using a razor to give short hair a cut can give a man a very textured look. This look is designed by leaving hair cut at randomly sculpted lengths. Prepare the hair for cutting by making sure it is clean and wet. Use a sharp razor that can be easily combed through the hair, and always apply pressure to while cutting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start at the back of the head. After deciding how much hair you want to remove, begin at the hairline in the middle of the back of the head and work your way up.

  2. Step 2

Pull hair away using your extended fingers. Hair should be pulled so there is a lot of tension and it lies flat between your pointer and middle finger. Use the razor to slice behind the fingers, keeping pressure on the hair at all times.

  3. Step 3

Continue the process working all the way up the middle of the back, and do the same thing working on each side section of the back.

  4. Step 4

Work on the sides by starting at the bottom, near the ears. Pull hair behind the ears towards the face, and cut down behind the fingers with the razor.

  5. Step 5

Pinch small sections of hair at the bottom of the sides, and, making sure you have adequate pressure, comb the razor down and through the hair to trim.

  6. Step 6

Work your way to the top of each side by pulling sections of hair between your fingers. Be sure to continue cutting behind your fingers.

  7. Step 7

Comb the top of the hair into 2 sections, each combed to one side. Pull sections out between your fingers and trim behind them with the razor.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check that you have cut the right length once in a while during the haircut by ruffling the hair up to see if all ends are evenly textured.
