Hair coloring at home can be a difficult task if you haven't done the process before, but once learned can save you lots of money. The most difficult part of the home hair coloring process is correctly coloring the roots, or regrowth, during the treatment. It is important to do this carefully and thoroughly so you prevent two-tone hair or missed spots. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Apply foil to the main portion of the hair, leaving a gap between the foil and scalp to leave the roots or regrowth exposed.

    • 2

Start at the front hairline and, using a brush applicator, brush the hair color into the roots. You will want to make sure you run the hair color along the entire hair line in the front and on the sides. It is important to work quickly when applying color to the roots to ensure the process time is as similar as possible.

    • 3

Work back to front starting at the crown, applying hair color between the foil along the crown and sides of the head. Move to the back and continue the process, ensuring you get the back hairline as well.

    • 4

Check all of the areas you covered to make sure you didn't miss a spot. Redo any areas that aren't thoroughly saturated or that you missed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear gloves when applying hair color. Not only can it stain your hands, but the chemicals included can dry or irritate your skin.

  • When picking a hair color never pick a color more than three shades in either direction from your natural color. That will require your eyebrows to be colored and can clash with your skin tone.
