How to Do the Rear Naked Choke Hold
The rear naked choke hold is a very effect hold in martial arts, and is employed by famous MMA fighters like Matt Hughes, Joyce Gracie, B J Penn, and more. The hold is technical and requires some skill, strength and a good sense of timing to apply.

Position yourself behind your opponent.

Pass your arm around the front of your opponent's neck until his neck is tucked into the crook of your elbow.

Bend your other arm and place it against the back of your opponent's neck. Your forearm will be directly behind your opponent's neck.

Put the hand of the arm holding your opponent's neck through your bracing arm, and wrap it around your bicep. This will help you to cinch the pressure around your opponent's neck as well as keep the rear naked choke hold in place.

Increase the pressure of your arms around your opponent's neck as you do the rear naked choke hold. In doing so, you are decreasing the supply of air and blood.

Release the rear naked choke hold when your opponent taps or when instructed by the referee. Because of the effectiveness of the hold, your opponent may pass out before being able to signal his surrender by tapping.

Do the rear naked choke hold in different positions. You can experiment with your sparring partner while training. Matt Hughes, former world welter weight champion in the UFC, electrified the audience by climbing onto the back of his standing opponent, and doing the rear naked choke hold. The hold does not necessarily have to be limited to the floor.
