Mastering the downswing will increase your game pleasure. A golfer with a perfect downswing will consistently have lower scores. Golfers tend to become obsessed with their downswing; the key to enjoying golf is to relax. When practice becomes another chore, it is time to quit.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a straight line on impact with the ball and follow it. If the club curves, so will the ball.

  2. Step 2

Push through the ball with an accelerated downswing. Speed is relative to distance.

  3. Step 3

Generate a bump action with your hips. The grind of your hips will help you control the downswing part of your swing.

  4. Step 4

Consult an instructor. Even Tiger Woods has a coach. An outsider will have a better view of your stroke.

  5. Step 5

Study your hands—decide which one is dominant. If you are right-hand dominant, the club head is too early on the ball. The result is a weak impact.

  6. Step 6

Work on your left-hand domination. Think about it as you take your practice swings. Do not let the left hand give up control. You will gain strength in your downswing if both hands are equal in strength.

  7. Step 7

Watch videos of your swing. Go over them with an instructor. Visuals are always worth the expense.

Tips & Warnings
  • Strengthen your left forearm and wrist with weight training.
  • Do things with your left hand that you would not normally do. This will help lessen the domination of the right hand.
  • Injury can occur in any sport. Remember to stretch before playing.
