Step 1
Consider the width of the eye holes in the ghost costume. It is acceptable if some of the makeup is covered by the sheet after it has been applied and the sheet has been draped over it but too little makeup will leave skin showing through the eye holes and ruin the effect.
-
Step 2
Place a small dot of makeup above, below, and to the left and right of each eye to mark the place where the edge of the eye holes will be when the sheet is draped. These markings will help you apply the makeup evenly and cover all exposed skin.
-
Step 3
Apply white makeup to the area of the face immediately around the eye and on the top of the eyelid and work outwards. Paint makeup on evenly and continue until you have applied makeup just past the border where the eye holes end and the sheet will cover the rest of the skin.
-
Step 4
Work white makeup into the eyebrow to give the face and the area around the eyes a more otherworldly, ghostly appearance. Use a fingertip or a sponge to cover the eyebrow completely.
-
Step 5
Use a fingertip or a makeup sponge to smudge the applied makeup slightly to give it a more imperfect, undead appearance. Apply more makeup in areas if needed or a thicker overall layer until there is no skin or natural skin tone showing through the white makeup.
-
Step 6
Add other colors like gray, black or green as accent colors to the white makeup to give your ghost costume more of a dead and decaying appearance. The area around the eyebrow and just over the brow bone is a great place to add some bruising or blood effects. Smudge these colors into the white makeup around the eye, shading the area under the eye heavily to make the eye extra ghoulish.
