In order to frame a house, you need to know how to nail the stud to the floor. This process, toenailing, can be done by hand but the nail gun provides the quickest method. To use the nail gun for toenailing, follow these steps for a hassle free attachment.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Line the board up to the appropriate spot. Once the board is in the correct position, outline the area at the base with a pencil. This creates a reference later.
Step2
Note that the gun has teeth. The teeth are created to grip the wood that you're toenailing to the base wood. Practice gripping with them before you attempt to use the nail gun for toenailing.
Step3
Line the board up to the lines that you created prior. Adjust the board slightly to compensate for the kick from the gun that will push it past the line.
Step4
Angle the gun at a 45-degree angle at the base once you've gripped the stud with the teeth. Shoot downward through both the stud and base.
Step5
Hammer the board lightly at the base if you undercompensated or overcompensated for the kick the nail gun created. Once you line the board up to your original position, proceed to the next step.
Step6
Grab the board on the opposite side with the teeth of the gun. Angle the gun downward and shoot a stabilizing nail into the board from that side.
Step7
Take special precautions by inserting another nail in the first side when you use a nail gun for toenailing. This additional nail guarantees the stud remains solidly in place.
