Using floral foam in a floral design makes it possible to place flowers in a small dish, and it helps to secure flowers that are too heavy to support themselves, as well. Read the following tips on how to fill floral foam with greenery to help you achieve a beautiful floral design.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare the greenery for the floral foam by removing any leaves or thorns that are growing around the last 2 inches of the stem.

  2. Step 2

Cut each stem at a sharp angle under water to prevent air from entering the stem. The sharp angle of the stem will allow you to insert the greenery into the floral foam and form a tight fit.

  3. Step 3

Place the greenery securely in the floral foam. If it is loose, the water from the floral foam will not transfer to the flower.

  4. Step 4

Secure crooked or wobbly greenery stems in the floral foam using floral picks. The floral pick comes with an attached wire and works as an extension of the stem. Wrap the wire around the end of the greenery stem and back down the floral pick. You now have a faux stem to insert into the floral foam.

Tips & Warnings
  • Treat your floral foam with care. Floral foam is fragile and easily compromised when mishandled.
  • Treat your floral foam with a floral preservative or a few drops of bleach to prevent the growth of mold. Soak the floral foam for at least 20 minutes in the solution.
