Things You'll Need:
- Floral foam
- Floral adhesive tape
- Floral containers
- Pruning scissors
-
Step 1
Pick out the type of container, vase or floral holder that you will be using for your floral design. It is best to select a container that will hold water and not a porous type container that will leak.
-
Step 2
Estimate the size that the floral foam needs to be to fit snuggly into your chosen container. Cut the floral foam to make it fit properly or plan on using 2 or more floral foam blocks to fill the container. The amount and size of floral foam to use will depend upon the size and shape of container you use. You need your floral foam to be a little oversized or over the top of the container. Do not attach or insert the floral foam into the container just yet, you are simply sizing up your project.
-
Step 3
Soak the floral foam block thoroughly in water. For a longer life to your greenery and flowers, add a small amount of plant food or plant preservative into the water so that it soaks into the floral foam.
-
Step 4
Insert the floral foam into the container you have chosen. Use floral adhesive tape to secure the floral foam to the container with a criss-cross tape method, if you will be arranging greenery and flowers to hide the tape.
-
Step 5
Snip or cut off the ends of each piece of greenery at a very pointed angle just prior to inserting each piece into the floral foam. Lay out the base design of your arrangement with the greenery you are inserting into the floral foam. If you use a square container, insert a piece of greenery at each corner to define the shape of the floral design you are constructing.
-
Step 6
Continue to insert pieces of greenery into the floral foam alternating with the flowers you have chosen to complete your floral design.
