Whether you want to serenade a loved one, become a rock legend, or simply while away the hours, learning to play the guitar is a great hobby. When it comes to the Flamenco Guitar, there are 2 very specific ways to hold it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Old Style

Step1
Sit in a chair, using correct posture, so that your shoulders are broad, open and relaxed.
Step2
Place the bottom of the Flamenco guitar on your right knee.
Step3
Hold the neck of the guitar at a 45-degree angle with your left hand. This will allow your right hand to access the strings. Use this position if you are performing for a formal event. It's a bit tougher on the hands and shoulders to manipulate and play the Flamenco guitar, however it is aesthetically more pleasing.

Modern Style

Step1
Sit in a chair completely relaxed with the Flamenco guitar by your side.
Step2
Cross your right leg over your left leg.
Step3
Rest the cut-out of the Flamenco guitar on your right thigh.
Step4
Lean over so that your body is collapsing on the guitar to a degree. This will put your right hand in a good position to strum the strings and your left hand in a great position to manipulate the neck.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are left-handed, simply reverse these directions. Also make sure that you are holding a left-handed guitar.
  • Some people like to sit on a stool when holding a Flamenco guitar as well.
  • Use a guitar pic to avoid calluses on your fingers.
