Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fencing mask and suit
  • Foil
  1. Step 1

Learn the proper stance to thrust a foil into the opponent.

  2. Step 2

Wave the foil in an upward circular motion. The movement of your back arm should be the same as the foil.

  3. Step 3

Make sure both the back arm and the foil are parallel to the floor when you thrust at your opponent.

  4. Step 4

Step forward approximately 18 inches with the foil pointed at your opponent.

  5. Step 5

Drop the front foot, heel first and toes straight forward, under the foil.

  6. Step 6

Adjust both knees in the thrust motion. The rear knee is positioned perpendicular to the rear toe and the front knee moves forward over the instep of the right foot.

  7. Step 7

Draw the foil back when the movement is complete.

Tips & Warnings
  • Distribute your body weight equally on both legs for a smooth thrust.
  • Do not fence without safety equipment.
  • Wear the proper safety equipment--people can die from fencing.
