Every woman knows that daytime and nighttime makeup can make a drastic difference in both look and attitude. Sometimes it seems the cosmetic transition from daytime to nighttime can be difficult to achieve without a magic wand and a personal makeup artist. However, there is hope for a sexy nighttime look. Learn how to apply nighttime eyeliner and look like a million dollars at your next evening excursion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine where you will be going so you can assess the appropriateness of the makeup you will apply. Remember that the darker the venue, the more makeup you might need to create a polished look.

  2. Step 2

Look carefully at your undertones and decide whether you will benefit from a basic black liner, or whether a charcoal or even gray liner would be more appropriate. Note that black works well for all skin types, while coal and brown liners are great for women with red and yellow undertones.

  3. Step 3

Use a soft penciled liner. Ensure that it is well sharpened but blunt on the edge so application is smooth. Line the top lid and extend the line just a bit outside the edge of the eye.

  4. Step 4

Measure the stopping point of the liner by eye balling where the brow bone stops. Lightly smudge the liner with either a finger tip or a small sponge to create a smoky effect.

  5. Step 5

Apply a small amount of liner to the bottom lid just tracing the line of the eye to create a light outline. Smudge the bottom very slightly to create a more dramatic effect or leave clean for less emphasis.

  6. Step 6

Add a darker eye shadow to finish the look off, using the smudge technique sparingly to create a sexy look. Experiment with different liners to assess which brand and color works best for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try a liquid liner for an extremely dramatic look. But use it sparingly, since liquid liner can be difficult to remove and leaves little room for error during application.
  • Consider using a light iridescent color, such as a silver or muted white, on the inner part of the eye. This color creates a contrast between the light and dark coloration of the liner to make eyes pop and appear youthful.
  • Do not over apply the liner; it will create a very heavy look that can result in dragging the face down.
