The oriental art of folding paper, called Origami, is popular all over the world. Hobbyists create intricate objects using a variety of paper folding techniques. One of the first projects for beginners is to make an Origami cup. Get some square paper, colored on one side and white on the other and start folding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place the square of paper on a surface turned 45 degrees so it looks like a diamond with the colored side facing down. Take the bottom point and bring it up to the top point.

  2. Step 2

Fold a crease at the bottom, making sure the sides meet as you make the crease. You will now see a triangle with even-sized sides and a point at the top.

  3. Step 3

Take the left bottom point of the triangle and bring it to the right side, keeping the top of this fold parallel to the bottom line of the triangle. Make a crease on the left side.

  4. Step 4

Bring the right bottom point of the triangle to the opposing side, also keeping the top of this fold parallel to the bottom line of the triangle. Crease the right side.

  5. Step 5

Grasp the top point of the triangle facing you and fold it towards you and over the top of the cup. Do the same on the other side.

  6. Step 6

Place a finger or two inside the cup, grasp the right and left edges and gently push so the cup opens up.

Tips & Warnings
  • A properly made origami cup will hold water and not leak.
  • You can do this with any size and type of paper for fun, but for it to be a true work of origami, use square shaped origami paper.
