So you've decided to go goth, and are probably taking makeup advice from what you've seen on the stage and screen. This also means that you probably look like a mime, and so to avoid more crowds of annoying spectators, change your technique for applying goth foundation. Goth is a glamorous and beautiful style, but it does require a little more makeup skill to do this look justice.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Invest in the highest quality makeup brushes you can afford to get the most beautiful results, especially with face makeup. Buy a concealer brush, a blending brush and a fluffy powder brush. Also keep a few sponge wedges on hand for creases and smoothing.

  2. Step 2

Buy goth makeup, but first buy regular makeup. Unless you want to look like a walking carnival, don't go completely white with your goth foundation. You want to go about 2 shades lighter than your skin color, so buy foundation accordingly. If you're already pale, mix your current foundation with white goth foundation.

  3. Step 3

Clean your face well before you apply makeup. Dead skin cells, oils, dirt and blemishes are actually far more noticeable when you go for that lovely gothic pallor. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer about half an hour before you apply your makeup for the best result.

  4. Step 4

Apply a pale concealer if necessary with a natural hair concealer brush and blend. Then, mix goth foundation with your current foundation, or if you have darker skin, mix your regular foundation with a foundation 2 or 3 shades lighter.

  5. Step 5

Use a natural bristle blending brush to apply goth foundation lightly over your entire face. Be sure to blend the foundation on the jaw line and down the neck. Don't forget to blend by your ears and make sure that your get even coverage. Go back with the sponge for harder to cover areas and to smooth any imperfections.

  6. Step 6

Consider mixing more of your regular foundation to the mixture you've already created and apply that to your neck, collarbones, and décolletage to give you the effect of a flawlessly blended look, especially if you've decided to go more than 2 shades lighter than your natural color.

  7. Step 7

Complete your goth foundation with a light dusting of loose light or white powder. Use a fluffy natural bristle powder brush, dip in the loose powder, and then tap over a sink to remove excess before you dust it all over your face, ears, neck and chest. The powder keeps the foundation from rubbing off and also keeps your look from smearing or smudging.

on 3/11/2008 Nice work. I'd say you got it right. Good to know you aren't one of the many folk who think black lipstick makes you a goth. Good job.
