How to Draw a Pattern for a Hand Puppet
When making a hand puppet, one of the most important steps is to draw a pattern for the puppet. It will take some practice to draw the pattern, but if you follow these steps, you'll know how to draw the pattern.
Things You'll Need
- Large piece of cardboard
- Magic marker
- Scissors
- 1/2 yard of no pile fleece

Use a magic marker to draw a pattern for your hand puppet on a large piece of cardboard. Be sure to draw the puppet's torso, neck, head and arms. The arms should stretch outward from the puppet's torso.

Cut the pattern for the hand puppet out of the cardboard using sharp scissors.

Fold the piece of no pile fleece fabric in half widthwise, and lay it out on a flat work surface.

Place the cardboard pattern for the hand puppet in the center of the fleece. Carefully trace the pattern for the hand puppet onto the fleece using a magic marker.

Remove the cardboard pattern for the hand puppet and you will see the pattern for the hand puppet. If satisfied with your drawing, discard the cardboard pattern, or keep it for a pattern for future puppets.

Tips & Warnings
If you aren't comfortable with your drawing skills, practice drawing your pattern on sheets of paper before you move to the cardboard.
Make sure that you don't make the neck of your puppet too narrow. The neck needs to have some width to it for the puppet to work properly.
Ask an artistically inclined friend to help you draw your pattern if your drawing attempts prove futile.
