How to Crop Photos Using Photoshop

The crop tool in Photoshop allows you to select a portion of a photo you want to cut away from the rest of the photo, keeping only that portion and discarding the rest. This powerful tool can be used to enhance your photos and create other projects using pieces of your photos. The steps below will guide you through cropping photos in Photoshop.

Instructions

1. Start Adobe Photoshop, and open an image from your files that you would like to crop.

2. Select the crop tool from the Photoshop toolbox. The tool is on the left side, third one down.

3. Click on your image where you would like for one of the corners of the cropped image to start.

4. Drag the selection down (or up) until you have gotten the general area of the image that you want to crop.

5. Adjust the cropped area selected by using the resizing handles or clicking and dragging the selection. All of the image that is inside the square will be in the new image, while all of the dimmed part of the image that is not selected will be cropped away.

6. Choose the green check mark from the toolbar at the top of the screen to commit to the cropped selection. The image will now be cropped, and you will be left with the portion of the image that was within the selection.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't see the Photoshop toolbox, choose the "Window" menu and click "Tools."

• Instead of clicking the checkmark, you can press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to make the crop of the image.
