Things You'll Need:
- Screwdriver
- Power drill
- Battery tray
- Moist cloth
- Socket wrench set

Step 1
Turn the engine off. Unfasten the battery cables—disconnect the negative ground wire first and then the positive cable.

Examine the battery bracket hardware and remove the battery.

Lift the battery out of its tray at a minimum every 6 months.

Rub any corrosion off the battery tray with a moist cloth.

Step 5
Inspect the battery tray for cracks if it is plastic.

Step 6
Determine if a coat of acid-free paint will protect the tray. If you paint the tray, allow it to dry completely before the battery is set back in place.

Step 7
Purchase a new battery tray if the damage is extensive. Vinyl trays have a long life and are available at local auto parts stores.

A new battery usually maintains a discharged condition with very low capacity. It is highly recommended to fully charge new battery packs before using. You can refer to the users' guide of your electronic device for charging instructions.
A new battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
Rechargeable battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
To maintain the optimum performance of a battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
