Dusting your home and furniture is easy to do and keeps your furniture and floors clean and moisturized. Some homeowners express concern about the work required to keep their floors and furniture looking like new. However, by cleaning with a dust mop on a regular basis, you can easily keep your home looking its best.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dust mop
  • Dust cloth
  • Oil-based dusting product
  • Water-based dusting product

Step1
Choose an average-sized dust mop when dusting a floor. Move any furniture that covers the area you want to clean. Sweep all loose dirt from the floor. Mop up any spots or dirty areas so you can use the dust mop on a clean floor.
Step2
Use an oil-based dusting product for wood floors. Liberally spray the product on the dust mop. Spray some of the same product on the floor. Be sure to dust the entire area and pay attention to the corners.
Step3
Let the floor dry for several minutes. Once the floor is dry, put back any furniture you have moved. You should use a dust mop on your wood floors once a week.
Step4
Dust wooden furniture and paneling, weekly, with a smaller dust mop pad and a water-based dusting product. Furniture must be dry before replacing any items to the surface of the furniture.
Step5
Clean the dust mop when it is dirty. If your dust mop is washable, be sure to remove it and wash it after your weekly dusting routine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dust mopping floors usually concerns the care of wood floors, however, vinyl floors can benefit from dust mopping, as well.
  • Floors that are cleaned and dust-mopped on a regular basis do not need to be resurfaced as often as floors that are neglected.
  • Disposable cloth mops may actually harm wooden floors.
