One of the most basic magic tricks magicians learn is how to make a coin disappear. Whether the magician makes the coin reappear in their hand or behind your ear, she uses the same steps to create the illusion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Start the Magic Trick

  1. Step 1

Make a "C" shape with your hand by placing the thumb on top and the fingers on the bottom.

  2. Step 2

Place the coin inside the "C."

  3. Step 3

Pretend to grab the coin and enclose it in the opposite hand. While your opposite hand briefly blocks the hand holding the coin, let the coin drop into the hand holding it. The coin should land at the base of your fingers. Hold it in place with a finger palm.

  4. Step 4

Switch from a finger palm to a classic palm. Do this by allowing the coin to drop from the base of the fingers into the center of palm.

  5. Step 5

Wave the fingers on the original hand across the closed hand. Some magicians prefer to blow air into the closed hand or say magic words.

  6. Step 6

Open the hand and show the front and the back of the hand to the audience.

  7. Finish the Magic Trick

  8. Step 1

Close the hand again but leave an opening between the index finger and the thumb.

  9. Step 2

Move the original hand over to the closed hand. As you move, drop the coin from the original hand into the opening in the closed hand.

  10. Step 3

Tap the top of the closed hand.

  11. Step 4

Open the closed hand and reveal the coin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pull the coin out of your pocket or from behind someone's ear by releasing the coin from the classic palm into the fingers and thumb.
  • Practice in front of a mirror to ensure your audience can't see the palmed coin.
