Balloon modeling is a fun and inexpensive hobby that can bring hours of entertainment to adults and children alike. One of the most important elements of any balloon modeler's repertoire is the basic balloon hat. There are an infinite number of balloon hat styles which you can create and adapt for your own unique touch, but a classic balloon arch hat is a great way to get you started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long balloon (for the arch)
  1. Step 1

Begin by creating the basic balloon hat, or balloon helmet in any color that you choose. Twist the end of a long balloon to create a bubble and then wrap the long end around your head to create the perfect fit. Pinch the balloon where the bubble meets the long portion and wrap the bubble around the balloon.

  2. Step 2

Make another bubble in the opposite end of the balloon. Bring the long end of the balloon up and over your head to find the center portion of the back of the loop. Pinch the balloon at the center and wrap the bubble around the balloon to complete your hat base.

  3. Step 3

Inflate a long balloon all of the way, which will be used to create the arch. It is best to use a contrasting color for more "pop."

  4. Step 4

Twist a bubble onto the knotted end of your long balloon. Twist the balloon onto the knotted end of your basic balloon hat by simply twisting the bubbles together.

  5. Step 5

Bend the long balloon up and over the top of your basic balloon hat and twist another small bubble in the loose end. Again, twist the long arch balloon onto the opposite end of your hat by twisting the bubbles together.

  6. Step 6

Use the basic arch hat to create a wide array of other hats. You can add balloon bows or round balloons or even hang a small balloon animal or character from the center of the arch.

  7. Step 7

Wear the arch balloon hat sideways or end-on-end, depending on how you choose to decorate.
