Applying artificial nails to the end of your natural fingernails is an attractive solution for nails that are short and brittle. Many women opt for artificial nails when they have problems growing their own. To learn how to achieve a salon-style look at home, follow these steps on how to apply an artificial nail tip.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wipe a thin layer of acetone, or nail polish remover, over each fingernail to remove traces of oil.

  2. Step 2

Use a nail buffer to buff each fingernail gently. Buffing your fingernails scuffs the surface of each nail, enabling the resin to adhere to both your artificial nail and natural nail.

  3. Step 3

Apply a small drop of resin on the inside well of the artificial nail.

  4. Step 4

Press the artificial nail tip onto the tip of your natural nail, and hold it for several seconds to ensure that it doesn't move.

  5. Step 5

Add interest to your artificial nail tip by applying different shades of polish, nail tattoos or small gems.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always apply artificial nails to clean and healthy fingernails. To avoid contracting a nail fungus, remove your artificial nail tips after 2 weeks.
  • Artificial nail tips will last 5 to 10 days depending on how strong of a bond the resin forms with your natural nail.
  • Although artificial nail tip kits come complete with the supplies you need to finish your nails at home, visit a nail technician for professional results. A nail technician will fill gaps in your artificial nails every 2 weeks to reduce the possibility of nail fungus and infection.
