Step 1
Train for archery hunting by knowing the potential of the bow you are using. Know how your sights work. Your sight mechanism is the most critical part of archery hunting. Thorough knowledge of your bow is critical to success on a 3-dimensional range.
-
Step 2
Practice techniques of determining yardage when you train for archery hunting at a 3D range. The best way to find your yardage is to use a range finder. A hand-held range finder will automatically tell you how far away from you the life-like animal target is on a 3D range.
-
Step 3
Get good at guessing distance if you don't have a range finder as you train for archery hunting. At the 3D range, step off your yardage. Since there are 3 feet in a yard, stepping 20 steps will give you approximately 20 yards. Shoot your bow with the 20-yard pin on your bow sight.

Step 4
Look at the lay-out of the 3-dimensional range in order to hone your archery techniques and get the most benefit from your time there. Most 3D ranges will give you different situations of the 3D targets that you must shoot. They'll offer shots in between trees, downhill, uphill and in open areas. They'll also give you different distances in your target simulations.
