Acne is one of the most embarrassing and stubborn conditions that affects a large proportion of adults as well as teenagers. Taking the right preventative measures may not completely stop acne occurring but it will limit breakouts and lay the foundation for effective treatment.

  1. Step 1

Wash your face at least 2 times a day with a wash specially designed for your skin type such as a mild non-abrasive product that contains natural ingredients. Avoid over washing as this can dry your skin, causing it to over-produce oils, which ultimately make acne worse or bring on a breakout.

  2. Step 2

Change your pillow case every few days so that your skin doesn't come into contact with any sweaty or dirty fabrics. The same applies to towels or clothes with high necklines that can also store dirt or dust that transfers onto clean skin.

  3. Step 3

Wipe down your cell phone or any other device that encounters your face on a daily basis. Use an alcohol agent or wipe to do this, as these will kill any germs and bacteria as well as getting rid of any dirt and make up.

  4. Step 4

Clean your hands before touching your face or applying lotion cream as everyday activities leave hundreds of different particles of dust, grease and dirt on your hands. Be very careful to avoid touching your face when you have been cooking or exercising, as oils and sweat are some of the most likely causes of acne break outs.

  5. Step 5

Apply a sunscreen that is designed for the face and, if possible, for sensitive skin. Most of these don't contain the harsh irritants that can cause your skin to flare up. Always protect yourself against the sun by using a high factor and wearing a hat or other protective gear in very high temperatures.
