Each year, as August comes to an end, kids have mixed emotions. Though the summer is over, the excitement of a new school year also builds. Celebrate this anticipation with a back-to-school party.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Use the back-to-school theme to make fun invitations. Make invites that look like report cards, or write out a homework assignment where the task is to have fun at the party. Incorporate school-themed pictures like a school bus and pencils. You can even take advantage of school supply sales and design your invitations on notebooks that the kids can use for class.
Step2
Decorate the party site with balloons and streamers in either the kids' school colors or in the primary colors. Add big cutouts of maps, school buses, letters and numbers. Put a large chalkboard in the room and write a fun message like "Back to School is Cool!" Let your kids help you put up the decorations.
Step3
Plan fun games and activities appropriate for the kids' ages. Play dodge ball, bingo, have relay races and design a back-to-school word search. If the kids are old enough, send them on a neighborhood scavenger hunt for school-related items.
Step4
Show a school-themed movie to older children. Some examples are "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Billy Madison" and "Dead Poet's Society."
Step5
Serve fun foods packaged in lunch boxes or lunch bags. Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grapes for a snack, cookies for dessert and juice boxes to drink.
Step6
Give party favors that can double as new school supplies. Send the kids home with crayons, pencils, erasers, notepads, folders, stickers, pencil boxes and sharpeners.
