How to Treat Canker Sores With Apple Cider Vinegar

Canker sores are painful and persistent ulcers that can affect your inner cheeks, lips, gums and sometimes tongue. Most last 7 to 10 days. There are various treatments for canker sores, but an easy home remedy is to treat with apple cider vinegar.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth well to remove any residue food.

    • 2

Put some apple cider vinegar on a Q-tip, and place the saturated tip on your canker sore. Hold it there for 1 minute.

    • 3

Repeat the apple cider treatment several times a day. Each time you do it, clean your mouth out first.

    • 4

Keep your mouth clean throughout the day by brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth regularly. Drink water instead of other sugary beverages.

    • 5

Steer clear of citrus fruits, chocolate, walnuts and tomatoes until the sore fades.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your canker sore lasts more than 2 weeks or is so severe that it makes drinking and eating difficult, go to your doctor. He may prescribe a topical paste containing a steroid to heal the severe canker sore.

  • Mouth sores can be serious. If you have a sore that you don't think is a canker, see your doctor immediately--especially if you engage in oral sex or chew tobacco.
