Step 1
Practice a lot. Skateboarding professionally takes skill, and skill is only developed with many hours of hard work. Learn and perfect as many tricks as a you can, to be considered exceptional.
-
Step 2
Create buzz about your ability. Skateboard at as many skate parks as you can in your area (or even out of the area). Mingle with other skateboarders, learn what everyone else is doing and top it. Most importantly, exhibit your skill to as many people as possible.
-
Step 3
Enter as many contests as there are, and win as many as you can. Winning contests exposes you to those companies offering sponsorships and gets your name in skateboarding magazines. More exposure will ensure that more sponsors will have the opportunity to check out your skills.
-
Step 4
Hang out at skate shops. Get to know the brands that supply skateboarders and the people behind them. They can help you become a professional. Ask shop owners to pay your contest entrance fees in exchange for you wearing their logo during the contest.
-
Step 5
Videotape yourself and send it to skateboarding magazines and supply manufacturers to gain their sponsorship. If they don't seek you out, you can take the initiative to show them your abilities.
