How to Budget Healthcare for Twins/Multiples

Health care is a necessity for everyone. From preventative care to urgent care and emergencies, we all need health care to help ensure we live healthy lives. When you have twins or multiples, it can be difficult to budget for health care. But there are options to help you save money on insurance, no matter how many children you have.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Price private health insurance plans, which are plans you get on your own through an insurance agent. These plans can be cheaper than you might expect, but with a cheaper plan you might also see a higher deductible. Acceptance is not guaranteed on these plans. You or your children could be dropped at anytime, leaving you to find another insurance alternative.
Step2
Look into a group health insurance plan. Usually, group plans are provided through work because you're part of a group. It's easier to obtain coverage for you and your children through this plan because everyone is accepted. The catch is that you have to be part of the group to take advantage of this health insurance opportunity.
Step3
Open a health savings account. Money you put into a HSA can be used to cover health expenses for you and your children. Your money grows based on the investments that you choose, and there are tax benefits to opening a HSA. A High Deductible Health Plan is required if you have a HSA.
Step4
Apply for government aid. Programs like Medicaid are available to help if you can't afford health care for your children. Even if you don't want to be on Medicaid, there are other assistance options available. Contact your county government office for more information.
Step5
Insure yourself and your family. Some families prefer to set money aside every month to pay for all health expenses. You take a big risk if you do this, though. An unexpected medical emergency can leave you in significant debt. And if you don't have insurance and a condition is discovered in your children, that pre-existing condition could prevent them from having adequate insurance coverage in the future.
