Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Reflect on weddings you have attended in the past. Focus on the things that stand out as memorable. The environment you recall in your fond memories of other weddings helps pinpoint the type of wedding venue that you identify with.
Step2
Consider your religious convictions. A bride and groom who are active and involved in their church or whose families are religious are likely to consider a traditional church wedding. Some religious traditions, such as Catholicism, require the ceremony to be conducted by a priest in a Catholic church in order for it to be recognized.
Step3
Come to grips with your family situation. If you have divorced parents who refuse to be in the same room together or a significant family feud that you do not think can be shelved for your wedding, it is unlikely that a big traditional ceremony is the most comfortable venue for your nuptials. Many brides and grooms consider elopements or destination weddings where they can be assured that family drama will not taint their happiness. The only people necessary for the wedding are you and your intended. If other people will not add to your joy, consider a wedding that eliminates the problem.
Step4
Determine your wedding budget and prioritize accordingly. When you are on a limited budget, your funds will go further at creative venues such as resort properties or outdoor parks than at the ritziest ballroom in town. If you have limited funds and have always dreamed of a fancy traditional wedding, search for good deals by scheduling your wedding in the off season or by doing some of the work yourself.
Step5
Follow your heart. For many brides, their wedding day is the culmination of many years of fantasizing. Take the time to dream about what could make your day special and find a way to make as many elements of that dream come true. In the end, all that really matters is that you are married to the man or woman of your dreams, but having the type of wedding you really want makes it truly memorable.
