Whether you're the best man, the maid of honor or one of the bride's parents, you probably have a lot of stories to share about the happy couple, and you may not be sure how to keep your wedding toast short and simple. But, it is possible to give a meaningful wedding toast that lets the couple know how much you care for them without boring the guests.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Brainstorm ideas for the wedding toast and jot them down ahead of time.
Step2
Focus on both the bride and the groom and their love for each other in the memories that you share during your toast without dragging the stories out too much.
Step3
Spice up the toast with some humor. While it is important to express your love for the couple, throwing in some clean humor will lighten the mood and keep the guests' attention.
Step4
Practice the wedding toast in front of others, and ask them to time it for you. It should be under five minutes and preferably two to three minutes long.
Step5
Write out the toast on a small note card, and keep it with you during the wedding in case you forget what you wanted to say. This way you'll stay focused on the important points without rambling aimlessly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't embarrass the couple in your toast. This is not the time to share funny stories from the bachelor and bachelorette parties or previous dating experiences.
  • Don't drink too much alcohol before giving the toast. This will strongly increase your risk of going off on long tangents.
