To get the most out of your softball ability, you must practice. Simply playing softball with the usual bats, balls and gloves helps, but using training aids can be equally important. Softball training aids help you focus on specific parts of your game you want to improve and make practice more efficient.

  1. Step 1

Get a batting tee to improve your swing. One of the best ways to perfect your swing is to repeatedly attempt to hit a softball placed in the same spot squarely. For this, any batting tee will do, but there are several batting training aids which make swing perfection more efficient. Consider a soft toss machine which will automatically toss softballs up in the air, or a tethered softball to prevent you from having to collect softballs.

  2. Step 2

Look for a durable net. This will save time with hitting practice because you can hit softballs off a tee into the net and then easily collect them. A net will also help with throwing and pitching drills. When buying a net, make sure it sufficiently stakes to the ground to prevent it from falling over.

  3. Step 3

Buy some fielding aids to improve your fielding technique. Look for a device which attaches to your wrist and trains you to properly position your hands when you catch a ground ball.

  4. Step 4

Consider a fungo racquet, which allows a partner to hit ground balls and fly balls to you with greater accuracy. If you prefer the feel of an actual bat, fungo bats are also available. These bats are weighted to improve accuracy.

  5. Step 5

Improve your arm strength with throwing training aids. Look for softballs attached to a resistance strap. The strap hooks onto a fence, allowing you to practice throwing and build up arm strength.

  6. Step 6

Purchase pitching training aids if you're a pitcher. A net with a strike zone outline will help you improve your accuracy. Consider looking for a net with a pocket to collect the pitched softballs. Various home plates are also available which have portions painted to help you target your pitches to certain areas of the plate.
